Ford has finally ended the long wait of customers by officially unveiling Focus RS. This brand new model is powered by 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine, the same engine that powers Mustang. Though the company hasn’t given the exact figure for torque, they have just said that the six-speed manual gearbox had to be updated. This was done in order to handle the additional torque as compared to the Mustang, which is 433 Nm. The power output is greater than 315 bhp.
The car gets a dynamic torque vectoring control. With such excellent technology, the customers shall experience a new level of driver enjoyment as well as handling capability. The car is an all-wheel drive and uses electronically-controlled clutch packs. Two such packs are present on the either side of rear drive unit. Moreover, they are capable of channeling up to 70% torque to the rear axle. Up to 100% of the generated torque can be sent to each of the rear wheels, in accordance with the situation.
At the back of the car, can be seen a high-performance large-bore exhaust system. Other than the dual pipes, the system also comprises of electronically-controlled valve in the tailpipe. This takes care of the balance of back pressure and also optimizes the noise output. More updates in the aerodynamics are the front splitter that looks more aggressive, rear spoiler, diffuser and underbody panels. The fender flares and rocker panels too sport a fresh look.
19-inch alloy wheels are standard on the model. These are accompanied by 235/35 R19 tires which have been provided by Michelin. Pilot Super Sport are the standard rubbers. For an additional cost, customers can get Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. As for the body paint, Ford has offered a rich variety of the most attractive shades – Frozen White, Nitrous Blue, Stealth Gray and Absolute Black.
The interior comes with several upgrades. The most prominent feature are the comfortable and classy partial-leather Recaro sport seats. The steering wheel is flat bottomed and covered in fine leather. The center stack has been re-designed and features SYNC and Sony audio system. The cabin houses an 8 inch touchscreen and ensures the highest sound quality with the 10 speaker Sony audio system. The infotainment system is capable of working with a rear view camera. Also present is the facility of park distance control. Above the center console, Ford has incorporated an extra bank of gauges.
