Passat Alltrack is all set to make its debut at Geneva Motor Show in March this year. This all-wheel drive is engineered to be used in a variety of climates and places. It can be driven on beach along with a boat in tow, through snowy passes in harsh winter and also on a construction site. It is a multi-purpose car- meant for family, for touring and for business trips too. The spacious SUV is luxurious, comfortable, safe and delivers superior performance at the same time. The robust wheel arch mouldings and the underbody protection make the car tough.
The automakers offer five excellent engines. All of these use direct-injection. Two of them are turbo petrol engines (TSI). And the other three are turbodiesel engines (TDI). All five comply with Euro 6 emissions standard. The two TSI engines churn out 150 PS and 220 PS. As for the TDI engines, they give 150 PS, 190 PS and 240 PS. The battery regeneration and stop/start are present as standard. The 150 PS TDI and TSI engines are mated to 6-speed gearbox. The other engines come with dual-clutch gearbox.
The car features 4MOTION – the all-wheel drive, that comes as standard on the Passat Alltrack 2016. The system comes into play even before the slip occurs, thus eliminating almost the entire loss of traction. For the normal driving mode, the fuel is saved since only the front wheels are in use. But when the car faces the danger of losing traction, the rear axle will become active quickly. The Haldex coupling acts as longitudinal lock. Also, the electronic differential lock that is EDS is integrated in the ESC- electronic stability control system. They are designed to act as the transverse locks for the four wheels of the vehicle. The 220 PS model with 2.0 TSI and the 240 PS one with 2.0 TDI have XDS+ for both the axles. This feature is optional on all the other Passat Alltrack models. The system is responsible for optimizing the steering response. The towing capacity of the vehicle is 2,200 kg. For the TSI 150 PS, the towing capacity is 1,800 kg.
Inside the cabin, the doors have been sculpted from stainless steel. The lettering ‘Alltrack’ can be seen on the doors. The seats are comfortable and on outer sections, they feature Alcantara. Volkswagen offers several leather options. Also optional are seat climate control, 14-way electric adjustment and also massage function. The coupling box meant for mobiles is a standard feature. It establishes connectivity between the external vehicle aerial and a smartphone.
The infotainment system has a lot to offer- head-up display, Media Control- the entertainment system for rear seats and the Active Info Display- that is fully digital. The Side Assist helps in lane changing. Rear Traffic Alert will detect the presence of other vehicles when the car is reversing out of the parking space. Yet more features are Trailer Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist.
The trailer assist features a camera and the driver can see the possible and the current angle in instrument cluster. The system uses image processing algorithms that use the data collected from rear view camera. This rear camera is responsible for analysis of the angle between trailer and the car.
In the exterior, the bumper has received fresh looks. The front sports custom fog lights. In the rear, the exhaust system is accompanied by integrated trapezoidal trims. The company has used matt chrome for the housing of door mirror. The radiator grille as well as the tailgate are adorned in Alltrack badges. The roof rails are anodized. Also present are 17-inch alloy wheels, whereas 18-inch and 19-inch come as optional.
