Audi Q7 e-tron quattro is the world’s first car to have quattro drive along with TDI plug-in hybrid. For the first time, Audi is featuring diesel engine with plug-in hybrid on a car. It runs on lithium-ion battery and is capable of covering 56 km purely on electric power. The system is powerful, keeps the noise to a minimum, with the local emissions being nil. The car takes just 6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr. It can attain the top speed of 225 km/hr. Despite of such impressive speed, it consumes 1.7 liters per 100 km. The fuel economy is 117.6 mpg (US).

It is equipped with a six-cylinder diesel engine that is rated 373 HP and 700 Nm. The fuel emissions have been kept below 50 gm/km. The auto makers have developed standard thermal management system and integrated heat pump especially for this particular model. Blessed with this new technology, Audi has set new standards for climate control and interior comfort as well. The car gets especially designed rear diffuser, 19-inch wheels and air intakes. The headlights have a three dimensional design.

Just like all the hybrid models of Audi, this one too is a parallel hybrid. The V6 3.0-liter TDI engine generates 258 HP power and 600 Nm torque. The company has added another technology that has never before appeared on a diesel engine. The Active engine mounts serves to damp out the unnecessary vibrations by the use of selective counter pulses. The electric motor is disk-shaped and provides 350 Nm of torque. It works with the decoupler and is integrated with eight-speed tiptronic. Low weight and high efficiency are the prominent features of the automatic transmission. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive is lightweight and compact and efficiently channels power to the four wheels. At the time of fast cornering, the center differential of the drive works with wheel-selective torque control system- that is a well designed software.

The interior makes the car a tough rival for its competitors in the class. The cabin is the most spacious and comfort is ensured by balanced chassis. It is optionally offered with adaptive air suspension too. The three seats in the rear are provided with adjustable backrests. The car makers have accommodated the lithium-ion battery in an ingenious way so as to make more space for luggage. The capacity of luggage compartment 890 liters- that is for the basic configuration. It can be extended to a gigantic 2,075 liters. The car comes standard with electrically operated tailgate.

MMI system and AUDI virtual cockpit have been newly created for the car. The MMI touchpad is easy to use and customers can control the system through voice commands too. The Audi connect internet module and hybrid management system are integrated into hybrid management system. This intelligent technology offers four modes out of which the driver can select the one that gives the maximum fuel efficiency. This is made possible by the use of real-time traffic information and navigation data. The calculation for the fuel efficiency can be done for long routes also and while the car is on the way. The efficiency assistant is predictive and employs the strategy of forward-looking hybrid.

The steering uses electromechanical power and is sensitive besides being very efficient. Yet another new feature is five-link wheel suspension. The system, present on the front as well as rear axles, has been made lighter. As compared with the car’s predecessor, it has shed greater than 60 kg weight. This has therefore led to improved driving dynamics. Another feature that contributes to the highly enhanced performance is the lowering of the center of gravity.
