Audi has created A6L e-tron for the Chinese market. This model is a very attractive one from several aspects. The vehicle is truly impressive right from the gripping looks to the excellent technology. The car makers have used very elegant design for the exterior as well as the interior. The infotainment system ensures great convenience for the occupants and comfort too is at its best.
The curb weight of this new model amounts to about 2,000 kg. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in a matter of 8.4 seconds. The car can hit the top speed of 210 km/hr. For the plug-in hybrid models, the fuel consumption is 2.2 liter for every 100 km. The fuel economy is 106.9 mpg for US. The CO2 emissions are 52 g/km. It can cover as much as 50 km on pure electric power. The vehicle has a total range of 880 km.
A6L e-tron is based on long version of Audi A6 – the model that is already manufactured in China. This parallel hybrid is very efficient, that is the two drives of the car have been arranged one behind the other. The four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine is rated 211 hp (155 kW) and 258.1 lb-ft (350 Nm). The electric motor is disc shaped and generates 162.3 lb-ft (220 Nm) torque. The power output of the electric motor is 91 kW. Along with the decoupler, it is integrated into tiptronic eight-speed transmission. The power is thus transferred to the car’s front wheels. The system outputs amounts to a 245 hp. The peak torque is 368.8 lb-ft or 500 Nm.
The lithium ion battery has 104 cells. It is capable of storing 14.1 kWh energy. It has been placed under the luggage compartment and reduces volume by a very slight amount. The luggage capacity is 340 liters. With the charging technology two-phase, the battery can be charged with power of 7.2 kW. The batteries can be charged completely in 2 hours – thanks to the high-power charging cable and high-power industrial outlet. Charging takes more than eight hours usually in a household outlet of China.
Intelligent hybrid management controls the car’s operating states. The drivers have four driving modes at their disposal. EV is the electric vehicle mode that gives priority to electric driving up to the speed of 130 km/hr. In hybrid mode, hybrid management system will select the drive type so as to optimize the efficiency. Another mode is battery hold mode that makes the system to store electrical energy. The battery is charged in mode – battery charge. In hybrid mode, the car can coast when the driver’s foot is off the accelerator. Both the drives will be deactivated then. Most of the braking and charging of the battery is done by the electric motor. Hydraulic brakes are used for heavy braking only.
The displays present in the cabin give details on the battery charge and also the drivetrain’s status. In the car’s instrument cluster, the gross system output is displayed by the powermeter. Energy flow in hybrid system is visualized by monitor for MMI navigation plus. Consumption and range figures for gasoline and electricity can be seen in the information system provided to the driver.
In the exterior can be seen 18-inch alloy wheels with sophisticated e-tron design. The air inlets have LED light guides and look beautiful as a staggered pattern is generated. The e-tron badges are present in trunk lid and fenders. The exhaust tailpipes are concealed by the diffuser. Audi A6L e-tron is the result of collaboration of Audi and FAW-Volkswagen in Changchun, the Chinese city. The model will land in the Chinese markets in 2016.
