The Mazda MX-5 Miata has been electromagnetic when it comes to special editions, nearly as powerful at attracting check-this-option-box versions as the Ford Mustang. The next one to be rung up is the MX-5 Miyako for those roadster-loving Brits. Part of the year-long celebration of 20 years of Miata production, the “summer special edition” Miyako gets the requisite leather interior upgrade with highlighted stitching and badging, unique colors and 17-inch wheels.

Audi has revealed a new livery for its Autonomous TTS Pikes Peak research car, drawing on the look of the original Quattro coupe rally cars of the early 1980s. When the Autonomous TTS was first announced late last year, we were expecting it to be running this weekend in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The current time-line for the program is to run the TTS up the mountain this fall and then go for a new world land speed record for autonomous vehicles at a yet-to-be-disclosed dry lake bed.

The rumor is back, at least in Autocar, that Toyota is working on a new MR2 and a hybrid Supra. A cursory glance through the Autoblog archives has found no less than eight stories on the return and demise and return of the Supra, going back to 2006 (here, here, here, here, here, here and here).

Through the wonder of the internet, we’ve been given an early glimpse at a set of M goodies for next-year’s BMW 5 Series. Bimmer Today managed to get their hands on a few scanned brochure images of a long roof wearing a few fancy bits of kit, including a reworked front fascia, aggressive side skirts and tweaked rear diffuser. The scans even show a couple of extra wheel options that should be available on 2011 models. BMW has managed to up the sex appeal by slathering the parts all over a long roof 5, but we feel pretty safe in guessing that the same parts will be available on sedan models as well.
